Your home is important to you. Your home is decorated with the furniture you love. Things you have chosen with care to surround you in your most intimate place, your home. Nevertheless it is very possible that you are still shifting things around, or that the new colour on the wall does not have the effect you were hoping for. Why is this?
Here is where Feng Shui comes in.
You might all have heard sometime about Feng Shui. When I tell people I am a Feng Shui Professional, the first thing they make as a remark is “Oh that is the thing where you need to put the toilet seat down in order to keep your money or where your bed has to be in a certain direction in order to sleep well?” Yes it is that, but it is much more than that. It is a very old Chinese science that teaches us that we are all in contact with our environment and that we are in constant interaction with it. When you use Feng Shui as a base for your interior decorating plan you connect yourself with what the house really needs to reach its full potential and to help you, its inhabitants, to bloom and be the best person you can be.
Feng Shui will show you which colours and materials are best used in which spaces in the house and which ones should be avoided. It gives your interior an extra dimension and with that it improves your general wellbeing in the house.
So, what is the essence of Feng Shui?
Feng Shui works with 5 basic elements, Water, Wood, Fire, Earth and Metal. These elements form a cycle which can be compared to several cycles of life, like the year, the human life, etc. It is in fact a translation of the intangible things in life into tangible elements. A way to translate nature around us in a language we can understand. It was discovered by the ancient Chinese Sages that studied the influence of our environment on us human beings in our daily life. It started with the old emperors, as they needed all the odds on their side in order to rule the country properly.
The 5-elements have different layers that represent a certain aspect of our lives. There is Water which can be associated to our careers, our emotions, the inner life. Wood is growth, creativity, our roots, Fire is passion, the heart, visibility and daring to speak up. Earth is more sustaining, it is about relationships, knowledge and food. It is also related to the archetypal mother energy. Metal is the cutting element. It shows us what is still valid in life and what nog, it is about money, discipline, our offspring and the archetypal energy of the father.
These elements are represented in our homes by the use of material, ex. Wood, metal, the fire place, brick walls etc. They are also represented by colours and shapes. All these materials have a direct impact on our daily wellbeing. The elements are also represented in ourselves through our personal birthdates.
All around us the world is made of energy. Even we are energy. In a house there is energy everywhere. Without it we would feel very terrible. The energy that comes in through the front door and flows through a house is what feeds and vitalizes us, together with our food. When there are areas in the house that are not energetically in balance, we experience these as dark, not nice, don’t want to be there, or clutter heaps up even if you constantly try to clear it up. When the energy flows freely and according to the natural course of Yin and Yang, then the house supports us and we feel at ease, healthy and vitalized. Even the food tastes better and clutter is easily taken care of. Life becomes easier.
Now you know what it is, but how does a consultation work?
When I am asked for a consultation of a home, I start with the floorplan of the house. I make an analysis of the lay-out of the house which gives me an indication about what is going on in the house energetically and where some problem areas might be. Then I visit the house and verify whether the problem areas that I have discovered are in reality also a problem areas. I look at colours, decoration but also at clutter and other discrepancies like routing.
During this visit, which is more a consultation, I discuss your wishes, your budget and whether you recognize the problem areas. I even ask whether you recognize certain aspects in your daily life. Then I go home and write a report on what we saw together I give an advice on how to alter things in order to eliminate the problems and make the energy in the house flow freely again. The report will be your guide on which colours, materials to use and what furniture should be put in which area of the house. It is also a good guide to work with as a base for a new interior advice. This can be made by me, but you can also ask the help of someone else, based on the report.
Feng Shui helps you make the home you long for from the house you live in.
